Coxless Crew – by Lizanne van Vuuren
Out third talk took place on 15 August 2017 at UCT. Lizanne van Vuuren, a Cape Town osteopath, relayed her inspiring adventures of rowing unsupported across the Pacific Ocean with an all-female four coxless crew. They covered 13,592 kilometres in 257 days, stopping in Hawaii and Samoa to replenish supplies.
They undertook the challenge in order to generate awareness about women who face extreme adversity, and to raise funds to support their long-term health and wellbeing. An extraordinary tale of challenges, determination, excitement and triumph.
There was a wine tasting by Intravinous Direct Wines, and Edward Snell & Co (Pty) Ltd provided a fabulous gin bar that kept our spirits buoyed! It was another great evening.
