My Father’s Coat – by Michael Charton
Michael Charton has that magical ability of every good story teller to draw you in. On 14th March 2017 at the Nassau Centre in Claremont, he spoke to us about the history of our country through the eyes of five protagonists – Mzilikazi, Kruger, Rhodes, Smuts and Mandela.
Spanning 200 years of our county’s past he wove a thread that was as mesmerizing as it was insightful. Around these five pillars he managed to distil what is, in most peoples’ minds, the impenetrable puzzle of our shared South African history. We could feel their passions, their dilemmas and the influences of their times. It was a fascinating evening.
