Noah
Noah provides a safe haven for 700 fit social pensioners in Independent Communal Living homes in the greater Cape Town area. The elderly citizens, often neglected by their families, live together and receive their daily meals, medication, advice, support and comfort from dedicated care-givers, and their fellow “housemates”.
Noah was selected as the primary beneficiary for our 2006 ball. Their most urgent requirement was maintenance at Nonkululeko in Khayelitsha, and the funds went towards replacing the roof and guttering, raising the laundry floor so that it wasn’t affected by winter flooding, landscaping the garden and purchasing benches. Inside, we funded cupboards in six bedrooms and fitted a much-needed security gate. In 2007, we also paid for an upgrade to their bathrooms.
In 2012, the Solstice Foundation provided further funding to contribute towards the renovation/upgrade of the NOAH primary health care centre in Khayelitsha. The clinic provides essential primary healthcare to residents and older persons in the community whose health needs are addressed proactively.
In order to generate some of their own income, Noah has various social enterprises running, e.g. Noah Candles, Noah Soap, Noah Loaves. In 2017 The Solstice Foundation donated R30,000 towards the Noah Soap enterprise so that they could purchase new moulds to replace the inadequate plastic ones that they were using. We have not been able to support NOAH during the past two years but we are still in contact with them, and hopefully, when funds allow, we’ll be able to support them again.
